“What P-Square, 2Face, and D’banj sacrificed paved the way for us to enjoy today’s success.” – Davido ( video)
Davido acknowledges that the current success of Nigerian musicians is due to the sacrifices made by those who came before them.
The renowned Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, reflected on his initial international deal with Sony during a recent interview. He signed with Sony Music in 2016, marking his first global contract.
Davido disclosed that Sony, as his label at the time, oversaw the production of an album, selecting producers and musicians.
However, he deemed the album a personal disappointment and later chose to work with Nigerian producers who better understood African music.
He emphasized that the achievements of Nigerian musicians today are built on the foundations laid by predecessors like P-Square, 2Face, and Dbanj.
Davido believes that future generations of artists will benefit even more from the groundwork established by the current generation.
