In a surprising development, Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine. Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos delivered the verdict on April 12th.

Earlier, on April 5th, the EFCC charged Bobrisky with six offenses, including Naira Abuse and Money Laundering. Although the court dismissed the money laundering charges, Bobrisky admitted to Naira Abuse, leading to his conviction. He was initially held in EFCC detention in Lagos.

The court adjourned the case to April 9th, but it couldn’t proceed due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday from April 9th to April 11th. Consequently, Bobrisky has now been sentenced to six months in jail.

The verdict has sparked controversy on social media, with some condemning it and others expressing sympathy for Bobrisky.
