The EFCC plans to prosecute celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest for misusing Naira.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally charged Instagram personality and celebrity barman, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, for violating the Central Bank Act of 2007 by spraying and manipulating Naira notes at a social event.

Cubana Chief Priest is set to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos on April 17th, 2024.

The charges, filed on April 4th by EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and seven other lawyers representing the Commission’s chairman, allege that on February 13th, 2024, at Eko Hotel, Cubana Chief Priest sprayed N500 notes for two hours, violating the Central Bank Act.

In the first count, it’s stated that he tampered with N500 notes during a Lagos social event in 2020. In the second count, a similar offense is alleged to have occurred in January 2024, during another Lagos social event.

In a copy of the charge which was filed on April 4th by EFFC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) alongside seven other lawyers representing the chairman of the Commission, it was alleged,

that you, Okechukwu Pascal on 13th Feb. 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

In count 2, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In Count 3, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

This development comes shortly after the EFCC also brought charges against controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, for similar offenses, resulting in Bobrisky receiving a six-month jail sentence.
